#EmpowerMoves is the dance that’s also self-defence

Girls across the country have come together today to raise their voice – and show their moves – as part of UN Women Australia’s latest campaign, #EmpowerMoves.

The campaign invites girls to celebrate International Day of the Girl 2021 by sharing a video of themselves doing a sequence of dance moves based on four basic self-defence movements.

The powerful dance sequence brought together music of Australian singer-songwriter WAFIA, the contagious movement of choreographer and entrepreneur Karla Mura, and the direction of Rita Matty of She Fights Back.

Girls across the country on TikTok have recreated the #EmpowerMoves dance in the last 24 hours, starting a movement through which they can show their strength and support for a future that is safe, equal and empowered.

The campaign also continues to gain momentum on TikTok with influencers and key figures like Australian of The Year, Grace Tame and Young Australian of the Year Isobel Marshall also jumping on board.

If you would also like to show your support, please donate to UN Women Australia today.
