HeForShe
Make the HeForShe commitment today and get your HeForShe Words to Actions Guide and join over 2 million people across the globe driving change in their everyday lives for a gender equal world.
“I am one of millions who believe that everyone is born free and equal. I will take action against gender bias, discrimination and violence to bring the benefits of equality to us all.
HeForShe started as a pathway for men to pledge their support and take action for gender equality. Five years on, the HeForShe movement has transformed into so much more. It has become a platform for all people, regardless of gender, to stand up for a world where we all have equal rights and opportunities.
What we share is more powerful than what divides us. We are more powerful together and in order to achieve a gender equal world we must walk the path together. As we mark the fifth anniversary of the HeForShe movement, we invite you to join us and take the pledge to promote gender equality in your everyday life. It is the small, consistent actions we make each day that can change the world. Over 25,000 Australians have already made the commitment. We want to double this number, and reach 50,000. Join us and stand for equality.
Key Facts:
- 1 in 3 women and girls will experience physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner in their lifetime
- Worldwide, only 1 in 5 parliamentarians are women
- Globally, women are paid 10-30% less than men
What is needed?
Gender equality will have been achieved when women do not experience violence in their homes, share unpaid care work with men and are represented at the highest levels of business and politics. No country in the world has achieved gender equality, and the pace of change is frustratingly slow.
For decades, women have advocated for equal rights – but without everyone’s support, equality will not be achieved.
UN Women’s HeForShe Campaign asks us all men, women and gender diverse people, to take active steps in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. It is our hope that this year 25,000 more Australian’s will pledge their support for the campaign and commit to the HeForShe Champion Actions.
