How to word your gift

Making a Will can be complex. If there is a problem with your Will, your gift (and the gifts to your other beneficiaries) may not go to the people and organisations you want to benefit but as decided by the Court or according to legal rules of intestacy. We strongly recommend you seek assistance in preparing your Will from a lawyer or other expert (such as the Public Trustee or Trustee and Guardian in your state or territory).

Below, we have provided suggested wording and our organisational details, to make this process easier.

Option 1: Specific gift

I give $[insert amount] to UN Women National Committee Australia Ltd, ABN: 23 638 729 775/ACN: 613 156 700 at GPO Box 2824, Canberra ACT 2601 to be used for UN Women Australia’s greatest needs to advance the work of UN Women Australia and UN Women’s gender equality efforts globally. I declare that the receipt of the director, secretary or a public officer of UN Women Australia will completely discharge my gift.

Option 2: Percentage of estate

I give [insert percentage] % of my total estate to UN Women National Committee Australia Ltd, ABN: 23 638 729 775/ACN: 613 156 700, at GPO Box 2824, Canberra ACT 2601, to be used for UN Women Australia’s greatest needs to advance the work of UN Women Australia and UN Women’s gender equality efforts globally. I declare that the receipt of the director, secretary or a public officer of UN Women Australia will completely discharge my gift.

Option 3: All or a percentage of residuary estate

I give the rest and residue of my estate, both real and personal, to UN Women National Committee Australia Ltd, ABN: 23 638 729 775/ACN: 613 156 700, at GPO Box 2824, Canberra ACT 2601 to be used for UN Women Australia’s greatest needs to advance the work of UN Women Australia and UN Women’s gender equality efforts globally. I declare that the receipt of the director, secretary or a public officer of UN Women Australia will completely discharge my gift.

I give [insert percentage] % of the residue of my estate both real and personal, to UN Women National Committee Australia Ltd, ABN: 23 638 729 775/ACN: 613 156 700, at GPO Box 2824, Canberra ACT 2601, to be used for UN Women Australia’s greatest needs to advance the work of UN Women Australia and UN Women’s gender equality efforts globally. Additional option of contingent gift

This option may be used to give a gift to UN Women Australia if a gift to another person or organisation fails, for example because that person does not survive the deceased or the organisation no longer exists or cannot use the gift as they are required to.

If my gift to [name of person or organisation] cannot take effect completely or at all, to the extent that it cannot take effect, I give that gift to UN Women National Committee Australia Ltd, ABN: 23 638 729 775/ACN: 613 156 700, at GPO Box 2824, Canberra ACT 2601 to be used for UN Women Australia’s greatest needs to advance the work of UN Women Australia and UN Women’s gender equality efforts globally. I declare that the receipt of the director, secretary or a public officer of UN Women Australia is a sufficient discharge to my executors in respect of that gift.
