UN Women Australia Announces Powerhouse Panel for Perth International Women’s Day 2025

Perth – UN Women Australia is excited to announce that renowned Educator and Geoscientist Suzy Urbaniak OAM will lead a distinguished panel discussion at the Perth International Women’s Day (IWD) event on 7 March 2025.

The panel will feature prominent Western Australian women leaders:

  • The Hon Dr Carmen Lawrence AO, former Premier of Western Australia, former Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women
  • Professor Lyn Beazley AO, neuroscientist and former Chief Scientist of Western Australia

Urbaniak, who currently Leads the CoRE Learning Foundation and was the 2016 recipient of the Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching, will guide the conversation on empowering future generations through education and innovation.

This platform allows us to amplify the voices of inspiring women and explore how we can empower future generations through education and innovation. By coming together, we can drive meaningful change and advance equality across all sectors,” Urbaniak shared.

The Perth event will also feature a live broadcast from Sydney, where comedian and social media sensation Celeste Barber will deliver her keynote address. Barber, known for her viral #CelesteChallengeAccepted campaign, will add her signature wit and incisive social commentary to the day’s proceedings.

Taking place at Perth’s Optus Stadium, the event is expected to draw hundreds of attendees in celebration of International Women’s Month in 2025, marking the 30th anniversary of the UN Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for gender equality.

UN Women Australia’s IWD events are among the largest in Australia and provide an important opportunity to raise much-needed funds to support and empower women and girls globally.
