Mel McLaughlin is 7NEWS Sydney’s sports presenter and one of the network’s leading sports anchors.
Most recently, Mel was part of Seven’s Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Olympic Games anchoring team, and also hosted Seven’s Summer of Cricket including this summer’s Australia v England Ashes series.
Mel has covered most major sporting events on the world stage including multiple Summer and Winter Olympics, the Melbourne Cup, FIFA World Cup, Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and Big Bash Cricket.
A self-confessed “tomboy”, Mel has sport running through her blood — from football to cricket, rugby league, netball and everything in between.
Raised in Sydney’s west, Mel lived and breathed sport from a very young age having grown up in a football-mad family. While Mel’s mum barracks for Tottenham, she decided early she’d side with Dad and his beloved Manchester United.
After finishing high school, Mel completed a Bachelor of Science before taking on her first job in media at Sydney’s Radio 2 as a sports producer.
She then produced and reported on football program Football Stars of Tomorrow for SBS before joining Sky News as a producer, reporter and host for the network’s football coverage across A-League, Socceroos and the English Premier League.
In 2007, Mel joined Fox Sports as a host and reporter for its football coverage.
Six-years later, in 2013, Mel joined Network Ten to host the Big Bash League. The following year she co-hosted the network’s coverage of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Netball World Cup, as well as the Australian swimming championships and the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix.
In March 2016, Mel joined the 7NEWS team, based in Sydney’s Martin Place newsroom.
