Marriott International and UN Women Australia: Working together to Boost Economic Opportunities for Women in the Pacific

UN Women Australia, in partnership with Marriott International ANZP, and UN Women Fiji Multi-Country Office (MCO), is driving fundraising efforts to support the Markets for Change (M4C) project in Fiji. This two-year partnership with the world’s largest hotel company, will engage staff and guests, provide educational opportunities, and raise funds across Marriott’s properties in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. Additionally, Marriott is supporting UN Women Australia’s key campaigns—International Women’s Day and Safe. Everywhere. Always.—through hotel promotions and prizes.

The partnership was officially launched during Marriott’s Road to Give ‘walk, run, ride or roll’ events in October, with more than 60 hotels taking part in fundraising activities and learning about the positive impact of UN Women’s M4C project.

Marriott’s fundraising efforts will support the M4C project, which promotes gender equality through the economic empowerment of women market vendors in Fiji, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. This initiative brings together governments, vendor associations, civil society organisations, and UN agencies to create safer marketplaces, provide accommodation for rural women vendors, and strengthen women’s economic and leadership roles. By enhancing financial literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and leadership capacity, M4C helps lift women and their families out of poverty. Implemented by UN Women Fiji MCO in partnership with UNDP and the Government of Australia, the program drives meaningful, lasting change for women across the Pacific.

In Fiji, UN Women Australia, UN Women Fiji MCO and the Namaka Market Vendors’ Association, together with 200 Marriott team members and guests, gathered to celebrate the Road to Give event at Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort on Denarau Island.

The partnership has raised $43,000 in funding to date. Thank you Marriott International ANZP for your generous support.
