UN WOMEN AUSTRALIA IS CALLING FOR ALL GENERATIONS TO JOIN TOGETHER IN CAMPAIGNING FOR GENDER EQUALITY THIS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY.
UN Women Australia is celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2020 with the global theme Generation Equality – a call to action to join forces across generations, to create a new vision where every girl and woman everywhere has equal opportunities to lead, to learn, to earn a decent living and to live a life free from violence and discrimination.
Generation Equality highlights the importance of intergenerational collaboration and accelerating action. Still today, there is no country in the world that has achieved gender equality. It is time to pick up the pace of change. It is only by working together, across generations, that we can create a lasting vision for equality.
“We must accelerate our efforts to catalyse real change within a generation. One way we can do this is through ensuring women and adolescent girls have equal opportunities to access an education and income. When education benefits women and men equally, it delivers unmatched outcomes. This is why we are proud to be supporting UN Women’s Second Chance Education and Vocational Learning program this International Women’s Day. We recognise that with an education, anything is possible, for this generation and for generations to come,” says Janelle Weissman, Executive Director of UN Women Australia.
UN Women Australia’s 2020 IWD events will feature a dynamic discussion around the benefits of education and employment for women and adolescent girls with local partners Luz Restrepo, CEO of SisterWorks and Wendy Yarnold, CEO of Real Futures and Coordinator of UN Women’s Second Chance Education pilot program in Australia, Sonali Hedditch.
An array of talent will also join as event MCs: Janice Petersen, SBS World News Presenter in Melbourne and Sydney; Alice Matthews, Co-Host of SBS’s The Feed in Brisbane; Natalie Ahmat, Presenter for NITV News in Perth; and Lucy Zelić, SBS Sports Presenter in Canberra.
Funds raised from the events will support UN Women’s Second Chance Education program in Australia and around the world.
UN Women Australia’s events will be held across Australia with guests in attendance ranging from school-aged children to elders on the following dates:
