Governor-General to attend International Women’s Day celebrations

The Australian National Committee for UN Women is delighted to announce that His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, will next week attend celebrations in Canberra to mark International Women’s Day (Sunday 8 March).

The Governor-General is the Patron of the Australian National Committee for UN Women and has long been an advocate for gender equality. He will address the International Women’s Day luncheon at the National Convention Centre in Canberra on Thursday 5 March.

“The Governor-General meets tens of thousands of Australians each year and we are delighted he will be participating in our International Women’s Day celebrations and look forward to hearing about some of the issues raised with him by women across Australia”, said Julie McKay, Executive Director of the Australian National Committee for UN Women.

The Canberra luncheon to mark International Women’s Day will be held at the National Convention Centre on Thursday 5 March and we invite all Canberrans to join us in celebrating the achievements of women and our commitment to a brighter tomorrow for all.
