On March 28, 2025, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar near the city of Sagaing, close to Mandalay. This was followed by a 6.4 magnitude aftershock just 12 minutes later.  

The earthquakes have resulted in thousands of fatalities and injuries, causing widespread destruction and overwhelming medical facilities.

Search and rescue operations are underway, with significant damage reported in hard-to-reach locations.  

Key immediate needs include healthcare support, shelter, access to clean water, and the restoration of emergency communications.
