Gender Equality placed on the global stage at the FIFA Women’s World Cup

In July 2023, UN Women Australia and UN Women Aotearoa New Zealand joined forces with FIFA to champion gender equality and the fight against gender-based violence at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This historic collaboration was prominently featured at selected matches through captains’ armbands, pitch side digital LED boards, flags on the pitch, giant screens in stadiums and extensive social media coverage.

Fans were actively engaged on designated matchdays and encouraged to join UN Women in their mission for gender equality, inclusion, and the empowerment of women and girls everywhere.

This campaign provided a powerful platform to promote access and inclusion for all women, in the hope that one day we will have a truly level playing field for every woman, and gender equality for all.

The campaign featured two key messages: “Unite for Gender Equality” and “Unite to End Violence against Women”. The collaboration not only celebrated the talents of extraordinary female athletes but also reinforced the commitment to a future where every woman and girl can exercise her rights without fear of discrimination or violence.
