Why women and girls in Myanmar need your support

Myanmar recently emerged from 60 years of conflict, isolation and authoritarian rule and has embarked on a historic peace process, democratic governance and economic reforms.

With a population of 52 million, one-half of Myanmar’s women are out of the workforce; only 10% sit in the Union Parliament; conflict and recurring natural disasters have hit women hardest; and violence against women and girls is widespread. Together we can change this.

What UN Women is doing to change this

UN Women Myanmar is supporting women’s livelihoods, job skills and business development; building women’s capacities to participate in decision-making; and changing attitudes and behaviors that reinforce discrimination and violence, to prevent it before it starts.
