Emergency in Sierra Leone: women and girls urgently need your help
Your support is urgently needed to help women and girls in Sierra Leone who have been impacted by the devastating mudslide that occurred near the capital of Freetown on Monday, August 14.
More than 300 people have been killed and at least 2,000 people have been left homeless. As the rains continue and the threat of more flooding looms, these numbers are expected to rise.
Women and girls are often the hardest hit in times of emergency. And in Sierra Leone, where gender-based violence rates are already high, a crisis of this magnitude exacerbates the risk. Additionally, women and girls have unique health and hygiene needs that often go unmet during emergencies. UN Women is on the ground in Sierra Leone right now, working to ensure that women and girls receive the gender-responsive support they need. Will you help?
