Event Details

The International Women’s Day 2022 theme, Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow, recognises and celebrates the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are working to change the climate of gender equality and build a sustainable future.

Harnessing the skills and knowledge of women to conserve our natural resources and create a healthier, more sustainable planet, is central to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Women and girls face greater vulnerability and exposure to disasters, and conflicts, and yet they remain largely ignored in developing solutions and their capabilities are often under-utilised.

As the most impacted, women are also a critical part of the solution.

Join UN Women Australia on International Women’s Day 2022 to show your support for women everywhere. Women who are standing up and changing the climate for gender equality – contributing to a more sustainable future for all.

The interactive virtual hub provides you with access to our full IWD 2022 program of speakers. You can watch the headline speakers in the main auditorium, move between virtual rooms streaming the local live events, immerse yourself in UN Women stories and projects, or make a life-changing donation.

You can access the virtual hub live on the day or after the event.  Content will be available until midnight on Sunday 13 March.

Formal proceedings will be 2.45 hours. We have allowed for registration time in the published event timings. Please refer to the IWD 2022 Program and Ticket Summary for the timings of the events in each city.

The full event program is available here.

This IWD we are honoured to feature an exclusive in-depth interview with internationally renowned and celebrated scientist, conservationist and human rights activist, Dr Jane Goodall. Appearing virtually, Dr Goodall will be interviewed by Linh Do, a sustainability activist and leader in her own right. Our events will also include an inspiring range of local speakers live in each city, to be announced soon. To view our full line up of speakers, click here.

Yes, all guests will be required to check in on arrival due to current COVID-19 regulations. Therefore, please ensure that all attendee details are complete by Friday 18 February. Providing these details will facilitate a smooth registration process. Any guests who are not fully registered by this date will have to provide their details when they arrive at the event, which may result in queues. We will also be unable to cater for special dietary requirements.

Please have your ticket barcode ready for scanning (either printed or on your phone). You will be told your table number as you check-in. Our friendly volunteers will be on hand to provide assistance and direct you to your table.

Dress code is smart casual for the event.

The content across all events will be available to access via the hub until midnight on Sunday 13 March.

All events will include two courses. For the lunches a drink will be served on arrival and we will then be operating a cash bar.

Our IWD events are our main fundraising activity for the year and raise vital funds for the world’s women and girls.  Our volunteers will be circulating the tables at the live events asking for donations which can be made via EFTPOS machines or online.  There will also be a link to donate on the virtual hub.  Your donations are incredibly important and we thank you in advance.

Purchasing Tickets

Please refer to the Program and Ticket Summary for 2022 prices and inclusions. If your question relating to ticket sales is not included here, please email [email protected].

Join the largest movement for gender equality in the world by becoming a member of UN Women Australia and you will gain access to member pricing. Keep in mind it can take up to three business days for your membership to be processed (and tickets and tables are selling fast!) so the best way to guarantee your table or ticket is to book now. Check out our website to become a member of UN Women Australia and gain access to a range of membership benefits.

This is an opportunity for you to “pay-it-forward” to individuals and organisations who would otherwise not be able to experience our events.  Pay-it-forward tickets are designed to make our events more accessible to community groups or small not-for-profit organisations.   You can buy individual tickets, a table or a bundle of virtual tickets via the normal booking process on our website.  There are a number of individuals and organisations across Australia who support our work and who would benefit hugely from your generosity and this opportunity to attend.

You can either add your name to the waitlist and you will be advised once tickets become available, or you can buy tickets to the virtual event.

The number of guests per table is dependent on current state and venue restrictions. Please refer to our COVID Safety Information and Regulations for more details.

You can select your table position or seats on checkout.  When you are checking out, please select your table or seat(s) from those available as shown on the seating map. After checkout, you will be able to edit your seat selection to move to other available seats or tables for your ticket type. Simply select ‘edit order’ on your confirmation email and click ‘edit seats’.

Please note: final seat/table selection may change due to the ongoing COVID-19 state restriction updates.

You must select your seats as per the instructions above.

As you would if you were buying tickets to the theatre, we recommend that you buy your tickets as a group to guarantee seats together.  If you purchase tickets individually, please coordinate seat selections with those guests you would like to be seated with, as we will not be able to accommodate any seating requests.

Should a live event or allocation of tickets need to be cancelled due to Covid-19 related restrictions, the streamed event will still go ahead. All live ticket holders will be able to transfer to streamed tickets and the cost difference can either be refunded or gifted to UN Women Australia.

Participants may cancel their tickets without penalty up until 30 days prior to the event. Cancellations received within 30 to 14 days before the event will incur a 50% administration fee. Cancellations received less than 14 days before the event will be non-refundable. All cancellations must be made in writing to [email protected].  Please to the terms and conditions for full details.

All tickets are transferable more than 14 days prior to the event. If transferred within 14 days prior to the event, updated names may not be recorded on tickets or seating lists and dietary requirements may not be catered for. Transfers should be made in writing by the registered person to [email protected]. All other details will be assigned to the new person unless otherwise specified.

Ticket sales have now been extended until 5 pm on Thursday 24 February, unless sold out prior.

Ticket sales for the virtual event will close at 5pm on Thursday 3 March.

The preferred way to purchase tickets and to secure a table is to book online with a credit card, which guarantees your ticket/table selection immediately. We strongly encourage payment by credit card due to the popularity of the event as tables sell out quickly. Please click here to book online.

Should you wish to pay via EFT and require an invoice, we are able to arrange this separately for you.  Please contact [email protected].  Note that payment terms for the invoice are strictly 7 days. The invoice does not confirm your table until payment has been made. If payment is not received within the 7 day terms, the table may be returned for sale and the invoice cancelled.

Please refer to the IWD 2022 Program and Ticket Summary for pricing.

There are plenty of ways to support UN Women Australia this International Women’s Day. You could:

Check out our Fundraising Kit for ideas and inspiration.

Since the United Nations first marked March 8 as the Official Day of Observance for International Women’s Day in 1975, IWD has grown in significance and importance, focusing the world’s attention on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

Under the global leadership of UN Women and supporting organisations, we celebrate International Women’s Day, to reflect on progress, call for change and to celebrate the courage and determination of those who have changed the face of gender equality.

Each year the global theme for International Women’s Days is determined by UN Women, and in 2022 the theme is Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.

In recent years, there has been some confusion over the theme and fundraising efforts for IWD with the emergence of some profit-based entities seeking public support for initiatives unrelated to charity or philanthropic initiatives for women and girls.

Registered charities are becoming concerned that some for-profit entities are raising funds under the guise of IWD, for non-charitable purposes, or for activities that do not support female empowerment or the advance gender equality. In some cases, critical funding for women and girls is being redirected away from where they are needed most.

We can all help change the climate for gender equality and conversations are an important part of that, but funds are critical if we are committed to accelerating gender equality for a sustainable future.

Choose a trusted registered Australian charity this International Women’s Day. Look for this mark when making your donation.
