Millions of women and girls are currently living under threat – living in fear, in conflict zones, and desperately in need of our assistance to survive. In 2024, approximately 150 million women and girls need humanitarian assistance worldwide.

The Women’s Emergency Fund enables UN Women to respond promptly to emergencies – unpredictable in nature – while other resource mobilisation and reallocation efforts are underway under. 

Women and girls are disproportionately impacted in times of crisis, conflict and war – gender-based violence skyrockets, women shoulder additional care, domestic and livelihood responsibilities and are often the last to eat in food shortages.

Right now, UN Women is on the ground working to providing safety, security, and support to women and girls facing crisis across the globe.

When natural disasters strike, like the recent landslide in Papua New Guinea’s Enga Province, which killed hundreds and left an estimated 6,000 people displaced, UN Women works to ensure the immediate needs of women and girls are not forgotten.  

As the war continues and Ukrainian civilians face two years of war and upheaval, some 14.6 million people are predicted to need humanitarian assistance in 2024, 56% of whom are women and girls. Find out more here.

In Sudan, a year of civil conflict has killed 14,600 people and thousands more displaced and exiled. Since the beginning of the conflict, UN Women has supported women and girls in Sudan, but while aid through UN Women and partners has reached millions, the situation remains dire. In Haiti, more than 300,000 people are currently displaced from their homes, most of them women and children. Throughout this crisis, UN Women has worked with partners to provide emergency support, but many more women and girls remain in urgent need. Find out more here.
