Thanks to the kind financial support of people like you, UN Women National Committee (NC) Australia is proud to have contributed more than $4 million in the past ten years to support UN Women’s transformative policy work and programs. Together, we are creating brighter futures for women and girls in PNG, across the Pacific, and around the world. In 2015, UN Women HQ invited UN Women NC Australia’s Board of Directors, in collaboration with the staff team, to revisit our strategy to grow resources for UN Women. To think big. To be bold.
Following a strategic review of options and opportunities, UN Women NC Australia decided to launch face to face fundraising programs in late 2016. Face to face fundraising — where individuals are invited to contribute to UN Women through an individual engagement, one to one, in public spaces like city squares or shopping centres — raised more than $100 million for Australian charities in 2014. Face to face fundraising programs have been delivered by our National Committee colleagues for years. Through their face to face fundraising programs in Iceland and Finland, our fellow National Committee colleagues have achieved important gains in advocacy for and awareness of UN Women, and, importantly, have exponentially grown UN Women’s pool of support.
Our face to face fundraising teams are on the street and in shopping centres to engage with like-minded people and open a conversation about how everyone can support the world’s women and girls.
How to recognise a UN Women National Committee Australia fundraiser
Our fundraisers are wearing UN blue shirts with the UN Women NC Australia logo on the front. On cold or rainy days, they will have a black rain jacket with our logo on the front and back. They will always be displaying ID badges which state their name, that they are a paid fundraiser, and that they are raising funds for UN Women NC Australia.
Our fundraisers will never ask for cash or cheques, and will only take credit/debit cards or banking details if you agree to sign up as a monthly donor.
We currently have teams in metropolitan Perth and the greater Sydney region.
Where donations go
80 cents of every dollar donated goes to UN Women’s work in the field, supporting programs and policies to end violence, respond to women’s urgent needs in crisis, provide education and training, and, to support women’s employment and leadership development. UN Women works in 105 countries worldwide to ensure that girls and boys and men and women have equal opportunities to be safe, to lead, to learn and to earn.
20 cents of every dollar you donate each month stays in Australia, to support the operating cost of UN Women National Committee Australia. We work closely with UN Women’s field teams to learn about the needs of women and girls worldwide, and share campaigns with everyday Australians so that together, we can create a brighter future for women and girls.
Our promise to you
We understand the concerns that the public can have around face to face fundraising, and we have always set the highest of standards for our representatives. UN Women NC Australia is a member of the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association, Australia’s peak body for regulating the face to face industry. We follow their directives on fundraiser behaviour and acceptable locations and times to fundraise.
