    Press release: To accelerate gender equality, UN Women launches a Call to Action to parliamentarians

    Tokyo, 27 June —In the lead up to the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (Beijing+25) and UN Women’s ground-breaking campaign commemorating the anniversary, “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future”, UN Women Executive Director, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, today called upon global parliamentarians to build on the experiences and best practices from Member States on how to achieve a gender equal world via legislation and parliamentary work.

    Statement: Placing victims at the centre of investigations spurs justice for survivors of sexual violence in conflict

    Joint message from Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women and Nina Suomalainen, Executive Director of Justice Rapid Response, for the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict (19 June) Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we honour the victims and survivors of sexual violence around the world and stress the importance of preventing sexual violence by addressing its root causes, including gender inequality. As we approach the 20th anniversary of Security Council resolution 1325 on women and peace and security in 2020, we join victims and survivors who demand an end to sexual violence in conflict, justice for violations, inclusive and sustained peace, as well as access to basic rights and services, including comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights.
